Mob Bosses Blame Recession for Decline in Extortion Revenues. 

The mafia have announced a series of strikes as they demand government do more for the underground economy. Organised crime will refuse to extort until their demands are met.

As well as refusing to collect protection money, Mafiosi will also be breaking their code of silence, or Omerta, for the duration of the strike. “I’ll be talking to anybody…police, government officials, the press, even Aunty Alice” said one scar-ridden, drug addled hit man.  

The Italian black economy accounts for nearly 20% of GDP but has been hit hard by the financial crisis after Covid-19 and the war in Ukraine.
